Durance is a fresh new typeface release from Kyiv-based Art Director and Graphic Designer Ivan Tsanko. Also the creator of Trud Type—which you can find on Type Department alongside this new gem—Ivan’s characteristic knack for distilling different references into an elegant, coherent typeface makes Durance instantly recognisable.
Durance is comprised of both Latin and Cyrillic scripts, which tie together beautifully; the structural influences of each playing off one another seamlessly. Coming in two distinct, alternative styles—Durance Rock and Durance Flower—the former allows users to tailor a harder, more angular aesthetic through geometric shapes, while the latter brings a gentler, curved look.
Durance‘s sparse hairlines bring bursts of contrast alongside angular, unruly serifs. This creates a jolting personality throughout the uppercase characters, while a calligraphic, humanist touch softens the type through the lowercase; allowing the expressive qualities of the typeface to shine through without being overpowering.
Ideal for display purposes or mid-length text (tag-lines etc.), Durance can be purchased in the Rock and Flower styles singularly, or as a family. Equipped with Open Type features including uppercase, lowercase, punctuation, numerals and ligatures, this typeface is a stunning to addition to Type Department‘s collection.
