It has always been part of PP‘s ethos to empower the beautiful design community. This Font Starter Pack is one more way they’re doing just that.
“Every graphic designer, aspiring or seasoned, needs great tools,” says Pangram Pangram‘s founder, Mathieu Desjardins. An integral part of any design, fonts are easily one of the most important resources in the design world. However, with complex licensing systems and a lack of awareness among clients, quality fonts are not always easily accessible.
Launched four years ago and updated each year, PP’s Font Starter Pack aims to tackle this issue head-on. “Typefaces are an inherent part of a designer’s toolbox,” says Mathieu, “so the goal of the pack is exactly that: to give them easy and affordable access to Pangram Pangram’s full type roster—31 typefaces for a combined total of 300 styles!”
Each year at Pangram Pangram means a ton of new fonts, and Mathieu confirms that 2021 was no different. The new pack includes all the new releases from 2021: Fraktion, Eiko, Pangram Sans Rounded and Right Gothic, bringing the total from 27 to 31 typefaces. “We have been working hard on updating our current line-up,” Mathieu adds, “Reflecting that, the pack includes the all-new italics for Editorial New, a revitalized Neue Montreal and the now gigantic collection of Pangram Sans, to name a few…
“This year, we teamed up with the talented people at Layers to provide even more quality mockups than last year — now 10 in total. All of this for only a $2 increase from $27. Like I mentioned above, we want to keep this affordable and accessible for all designers.”
Drawing from past experience, Mathieu knows how important font selections are in any design environment. “It’s similar to choosing a colour,” he says, “and you are rarely limited to the number of colours you can choose from. Type selection should be the same I think. The goal of an independent type foundry IMO is to curate a selection of fonts so that creatives have enough to test out but not too much that they feel overwhelmed and lost. We try to build that trust with designers so that every time they come back to Pangram Pangram to find inspiration for their new project, they have nicely curated, quality font options. It’s with this in mind that we are expanding our typeface collection.”
As a past graphic designer, Mathieu believes that the availability of accessible, high-quality fonts is an issue in the industry, which is why the Font Starter Pack came to be in the first place. “There are never enough great affordable tools for us, whether that’s fonts, mockups, plugins, etc… That’s also why the Font Starter Pack saw the light of day, because of my background and experience in ad agencies where it was always a struggle between taking time to find the right tool or doing things yourself…And the struggle is still real! So we’re just trying to alleviate it with this offer! ????”
Looking forward to the rest of 2022, Mathieu assures us that there’re lots of exciting fonts on the horizon at PP—all centred on empowering the design community.
Stay tuned! ????
